$94K raised for veterans at gala

Denver’s Cable Center was the scene of the Veteran’s Passport to Hope’s Sixth Annual Gala on Feb. 22. The event featured live music, speakers, prizes and raised $94,000 to fund veteran-friendly nonprofits. Eagles Nest Ranch, Colorado Veterans Project and Volunteers of America are among the recipients.

Energy company hits goal with Avalanche charity

Denver’s DCP Midstream pledged $450 to the American Heart Association for every save made by Colorado Avalanche goalies through the 2017-2018 season. The result was a $1 million check presented to the charity during the regular season closer.

Starbucks deploys volunteers to food bank

Seventy-five Starbucks employees volunteered at Food Bank of the Rockies to celebrate the coffee company’s FoodShare program. The program donates unsold food, even perishable items, to local food pantries across the nation through Feeding America.

Children’s Chorale wins fundraising tournament

The Colorado Children’s Chorale was named the champion of Brackets For Good Denver, the local version of a national competitive fundraising event that raised nearly $3 million for 605 charities this year. The chorale, which performs operas, theater and standard chorus fare, raised $29,553 to edge out its competitors, and will see an additional $10,000 donation from Denver food delivery newcomer ClusterTruck.

MBA students build bikes for kids…blindfolded

MBA students at DU’s Daniels College of Business joined the growing list of organizations building bicycles for charity, but with a twist. The students faced five challenges, including one “Survivor”-style challenge that required them to talk their blindfolded students through the bike-building process. The students planned on building 25 bikes, according to a press release.
